Multimodal Genograms for Family Assessment & Treatment in Play Therapy

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

ROOM 705

Genograms are intergenerational family maps that can teach us about patterns of communication and interaction within families across multiple generations. This 3-hour workshop will demonstrate the value of exploring these intergenerational threads, and will be accompanied by artful and inspired practices that allow for children and adolescents to be included in these explorations. A theoretical overview will include a discussion of the clinical practices that gave rise to the development of genograms and how they are being used in both assessment and treatment; in particular, in the field of contextual family therapy. Participants will be introduced to several playful mediums in which genograms can be created and explored, including animal genograms, mapping genograms, and sculpturing. The experiential component will include a role-play exercise. This workshop will be of interest to both expressive arts and play therapists.

Eligible for 3.0 Credits: ATCB, NBCC; ASWB, APA, MFT, Nursing; SWNYS
